The Rotunda is the William Smith Museum of Geology, a purpose built museum in Scarborough which was designed to convey William Smith’s theory; that rocks could be ordered according to the fossils they contain. This discovery is the basis of all mineral and oil exploration today.
Geology Now has brought the Rotunda Museum up to the 21st century, using multimedia to present current geological and environmental research. Visitors are able to explore the maps that Smith developed and view 3D flyovers of them using interactive video.
For Centre Screen Productions Ltd, the exhibit I created for The Rotunda helps illustrate the basics of Smith's theory. You are able to look at the cross section of rock and learn how to recognise their sequence and investigate the fossil plates.
